VZ is the MIPS hardware assisted virtualization module in MIPS Release 5.

It adds a new "guest mode" (in addition to the normal "root mode") and a partial copy of the COP0 state for guest use, including a guest TLB which translates a GVA (guest virtual adrress) to a GPA (guest physical address). The root TLB translates the GPA to a RPA (root physical address). The root is in full control of what the guest is permitted to do, which allows a guest operating system to run unmodified and unaware that it is being virtualised.

Linux support

Linux mainline does not yet support VZ, but several patchsets have been posted to add KVM/VZ support.
