Imperas supplies virtualized software development environments for embedded software developers that includes debug, verification, and simulation tools. Developers of software targeting multi-core platforms and SoCs are finding that using hardware prototypes do not help them find difficult problems and complex bugs. They need the observability and controllability of a software simulation/emulation of their platform. Imperas with the support of over 20 companies established the Open Virtual Platforms initiative ( where the industry is developing fast, free, open source models of processors, peripherals, and platforms. MIPS Technologies recently announced a relationship with Imperas making all Imperas/OVP MIPS processor models MIPS-Verified(tm) thus ensuring their quality and accuracy.
