- April Germany's largest UNIX magazine iX publishes an April fools article about running Linux on the Nintendo 64. Initially promotion for the Linux/MIPS project and just good fun the article results in inquiries about Linux for N64 for several years.
- May 12 Silicon Graphics, Inc. announces H1 and H2. The two processors are supposed to become successors of the R12000.
- August 4 Silicon Graphics cancels the H1 and H2 projects again.
