installation of linux roughcuts

I am trying to install linux roughcuts(mips) on a dec 5000.  However I believe
THAT MIPS CANNOT READ THE CD ROM FORMAT.  Is there any solutions to this
problem as the commands we have used are correct and the hardware is detected.
 I would be greatful of any assistance.  From Damien Harris
