Hi,
after some long hours of building crossutils (Bugs in nearly everything,
overreading some IMPORTENT hints in the FAQ etc) i am finally in
the stage of build a kernel. :) I build one and bootet it on
a 5000/240 Decstation without success - TFTP download stops somewhere
(or maybe the kernel is not able to give out some chars).

Now i tried to strip down the kernel to the minimum ... where i
discovered another nice thing i do not know how to solve:

Compiling a Decstation kernel without PROC_FS is NOT possible:

--------------------
arch/mips/kernel/head.o: In function `except_vec3_r4000':
head.S(.text+0x570): undefined reference to `vced_count'
head.S(.text+0x574): undefined reference to `vced_count'
head.S(.text+0x57c): undefined reference to `vced_count'
head.S(.text+0x58c): undefined reference to `vcei_count'
head.S(.text+0x590): undefined reference to `vcei_count'
head.S(.text+0x598): undefined reference to `vcei_count'
---------------------

Which is in the proc.c which is CONFIG_PROC_FS

Same with:
---------------------
init/main.o: In function `start_kernel':
init/main.c(.text.init+0x83c): undefined reference to `sysctl_init'
init/main.c(.text.init+0x83c): relocation truncated to fit: R_MIPS_26
sysctl_init
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1
---------------------

Ill write my other experiences ...

Maybe somebody having a running kernel mails me his ".config" file

Good, Fast, Cheap: Pick any two (you can't have all three). (RFC 1925)
