DECstation 500/200 and Linux

I would like to help to port Linux to my DECstation 5000/200 with 
40MB memory. What's the state of the project?
I have tried binaries from ftp sites.

I don't know anything about MIPS assembler and I haven't tried to 
hack the kernel before, but I'm ready to learn.
