update, I found the following differences in portions of the tree
where mips-isms aren't involved :
Directories that stock 2.4.1 has, but mips/CVS doesn't
(if added to mips/CVS repository and sync'd against stock 2.4.1,
the mips vs stock diff would be saner?) :
